Board-Approved Eyelash Training Programs

Approved eyelash training programs offer specialized education to prepare individuals for careers in lash artistry, often leading to certification. These programs combine theoretical learning with hands-on practice, focusing on safety, client care, and lash extension techniques.

Components of certified eyelash training programs may include:

Applicants will need to apply for their program to be recognized as a board-approved training program.

An eyelash technician program will need to provide quality equipment, tools, instruments, materials, and supplies. A program would need to offer the following minimum equipment and supplies:

  1. Sufficient instructional equipment and facilities for instructor and student use
  2. A covered, wet disinfectant container
  3. EPA-registered disinfectant
  4. Sufficient sinks with hot and cold running water
  5. Separate receptacles for garbage and soiled linens
  6. One chalkboard or whiteboard
  7. Functioning time display
  8. A wall mirror
  9. Sufficient mannequins

A program will require a qualified instructor who is a Board-licensed cosmetologist or aesthetician, or a Board-registered eyelash technician. 

Ten (10) hours of preclinical theoretical instruction in:

  • Eye structure
  • Function and disorders of the eye and orbital areas
  • Eyelash growth cycles
  • Contraindications and allergic reactions
  • Infection control
  • Eye shapes and eyelash evaluation
  • Product ingredients
  • Health and Safety
  • Board statutes and rules

Twenty (20) hours of clinical instruction in the application of eyelash extensions, including:

  • Client consultation
  • Design
  • Cleansing the eye area
  • Conducting a patch test before eyelash extension service
  • Applying eyelash extensions
  • Removing eyelash extensions

After individuals complete the training, they apply for registration. No testing is required since it is a registration and not a license

Documents/Items Needed for the Application:

  • Citizenship document (Arizona-issued driver’s license after 1996 or passport). 
  • Instructor in Charge: Name and license number
    • To qualify to become a board-approved training program, the instructor must be licensed as an aesthetician, cosmetologist, or a registered eyelash technician. 
  • Instructor Verification letter: A notarized letter from an individual who is licensed or registered with AZ Barbering and Cosmetology Board who has personal knowledge of the instructor's work and can verify the instructor has practiced as an eyelash technician for at least 30 hours a week for at least two years.
  • Provisional Registration: a copy of the Provisional Registration (certificate of completion) that will be provided to students to demonstrate completion of the training. The Provisional Registration must have the following items: 
  1. Name of the trainee
  2. Name of the approved training program
  3. Address of the training program
  4. Name of the person responsible for the training program
  5. Name of the instructor in charge of the training program
  6. Total number of hours of training completed
  7. Dates of training

 

Steps 

  1. Create an account in the portal. To make your application process easier, double-check to make sure that you've filled out all of the required information and documents. 
  2. After you have created an account, on the left side, select 'Manage Training Programs'  
  3. Select the 'Create Training Program' and fill in the requested information. Make sure it says ‘Eyelash Technician’ under the Category. Select ‘Save.’ The name of the training you provide on your application will be used in your listing on this website. If you’d like to use your school or company name, it must be included in the training program name.
  4. A new page will appear with the training program you just created. Select ‘Applications’ on the left navigation bar  
  5. Select the ‘New Application’ button and choose the ‘Eyelash Technician Training Program Application’ from the drop-down menu 
  6. Select the blue ‘Continue’ link 
  7. Fill out the required information under ‘Incomplete Requirements’ and hit ‘Save’ to continue. When you complete a section, it will move under ‘Completed Requirements.’  You will need to provide proof of citizenship if you are not currently licensed with the Board as an aesthetician or cosmetologist. This needs to be a document that has a photo on it. We recommend using an Arizona-issued license after 1996 or a passport. 
  8. Pay the application fee of $250. Online payment methods can be Discover, Mastercard and Visa. 

After License Submittal

It can take up to 4 weeks for a completed application to be processed. If any additional information is needed from you, you will receive an email from the licensing portal indicating what we need from you and to log back into the portal and upload the additional information. 

  • You can check your application status by logging into the licensing portal.
  • Upon being registered, you will receive an email from the portal with your registration.
